Reach Higher

The Michigan State football team is in the final four for the national collegiate football championship. They may win, they may lose, but they made it to this point. Their motto this year was “Reach Higher” and they did. They worked harder, lifted more weights, studied more film, prepared better. They built the habits necessary to win. More than that, they learned to win on the field.

They didn’t do this in one season; they’ve built the attitude over the past eight years. They failed a lot before they began to win. When new players joined the team . . .

The Cause of Obesity: The Wrong Call

Three weeks ago, I wrote about the improbable finish to the game between Michigan State and Michigan; the point was that nothing is over until it’s over. Hard to believe that 21 days later, a similar finish went the other way for the Spartans. There was one big difference: the final score was aided by the wrong judgment call by an official. She’s in her mid-60s and feels good with some minor issues but none related to what affected her relatives. But when she went to see a specialist to discuss a specific test result, he said, “I’m sorry. It won’t be tomorrow...” She couldn’t really remember much . . .

It’s Not Over…

Stunned silence. That’s what happened to almost 110,000 people Saturday night. Why? Because they witnessed the improbable, some would say close to the impossible. If you watch any news or read about it on the Internet, you know a University of Michigan player made only one mistake in the game against Michigan State. MSU took advantage of it and scored the winning touchdown with no time left on the clock.

I did not see it live; I was in the Detroit airport getting to my connecting flight. But even there, people simply did not believe what they saw . . .
